Meet Darnell
Darnell McKinney (he/him) is an African American sociologist and retired combat veteran who brings a unique perspective to Rooted Feat, a team dedicated to improving community wellness to support recovery and empowerment in marginalized communities, highlighting the connections between race, resilience, and systemic change.
Mr. McKinney, a co-founder of Rooted Feat, supports clients in exploring their cultural identity, understanding macro historical trauma, and navigating the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life. His collaborative approach combines evidence-based sociological insights with systematic strategies, focusing on overcoming life’s challenges through empathetic support, culturally informed guidance, and sociological understanding, alongside conflict resolution and social mobility. These support healing and growth in each client’s journey, for all people, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans, transitional college students, couples, and individuals.
Darnell is not only dedicated to his professional responsibilities but is also a loving husband. He feels a great sense of pride in being a father to his sons, who have inspired him to cultivate qualities such as empathy, perseverance, and a strong sense of purpose. He is on a dedicated journey to promote awareness, understanding, and change in his community, accomplishing this through one conversation, one connection, and one breakthrough at a time.
Meet Keisha
Hi there! My name is Keisha Lackland-McKinney (she/her), and I am a well-rounded Marriage and Family Therapist Intern who connects with individuals eager to improve and preserve their mental health and are taking positive steps towards seeking help. Allow me to walk alongside you as we navigate the stages of change, supporting you to microdose your way to your best life!
My top specialties are life transitions, PTSD (trauma), and relationship matters. I have two master's degrees, the most recent one being in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
With more than 20 years of experience in behavioral science and counseling, and over 4 years as an MFT, I blend empathy with research insights, continuing education (learning), and human understanding to support clients on their journey to thrive and heal.
Some quirks about me are that I appreciate spending time in nature and engaging all of my senses. I love music, hanging out with friends, and going on fun adventures with my family. I'm all about making new friends, enjoying delicious food, football, and comedy.
